This Week’s Challenge: This is it… the beginning of the rest of my life!

#Micro Fiction ChallengeThe Details: Even though it’s micro fiction, it’s still fiction. You can write whatever you want, from whichever perspective you choose. It just needs to be fewer than 150 words.

The reward? Feel-good for meeting and accomplishing a challenge. And if you’re socially-savvy, you can share your responses with friends, let other people cheer you on. Garner bragging rights and gloat until the next micro-fiction challenge (next week).

My Micro Fiction Submission for this week: This is It!

Here she was. Moving slowly, gracefully, down the aisle. Her train dragged softly behind her rhythmic steps. Flower girls tossed petals out before them. And Luke. Her dear, unbelievably handsome Luke, stood at the altar, trembling ever so slightly. Everything was just perfect!

Luke took her hands in his and gazed searchingly into her eyes. Margaret bit into the soft flesh of her lip, just to remind herself that this was happening.

Kenneth, her ex, her best friend, her boss and today, the officiant for this ceremony, began to speak, but Margaret wasn’t listening.

“Speak now, or forever hold your peace.” Kenneth looked out at the attendees and then his eyes settled on Luke. He continued to wait.

Alright, get on with it! Margaret looked up from her hands that were beginning to perspire.

All the voice Luke could muster didn’t break a whisper: “Margaret? We need to talk…”

I stumbled upon this concept of micro-fiction a couple weeks ago, and thought it might be a fun activity as well as a good exercise for brevity. So how does it work? Write a story using fewer than 150 words based on the prompt of the week. It’s that easy.
